New Center Provides Comprehensive Care for People with Special Needs

People with disabilities can be at a disadvantage when it comes to securing routine care.  Now, there’s a new center in Delaware that meets their special healthcare needs and provides comprehensive services to families.

Practice Without Pressure, Inc., a local non-profit organization, has opened its first Practice & Procedure Center in Newark, Delaware. “What sets us apart is our unique approach to services and the people on our staff who provide that care,” said Deborah Jastrebski, founder and chief executive officer of PWP.

“We have a staff of medical, dental and personal care professionals who understand through our training how important it is to treat our clients with dignity and respect, and to provide them personalized services that will make our center their healthcare home.”

On-site services include dental exams, x-rays and fillings, blood draws, women’s health exams, nail and hair care with plans to offer general medicine in the future.  The center accepts Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Delaware, Coventry Health Care, and most major insurance for covered treatments. PWP also has a contract to provide dental services to individuals supported by the Delaware Division of Developmental Disability Services.

With its welcoming, home-like exterior, the center is both accessible and comfortable, especially for those who avoid or resist routine care.  For those clients, PWP offers its innovative Practice Model™ that helps people overcome their fear of procedures so that they can complete needed exams or tests without restraints and with confidence.

When Jastrebski began PWP nearly seven years ago, those clients who completed treatment with PWP did not always have a place where their new skills were recognized or accepted. Now, clients ready to complete procedures they no longer fear, can do so at the center or another facility of their choosing.

“We help individuals be prepared and not scared to receive care, and bring under one roof routine services that can benefit the entire family,” Jastreski said. The center is the first of its kind in the region to offer this range of services, she noted, and expands access to care that has often been limited for individuals with disabilities and their families.

The facility features universal design, with ramped entrances, wider doors and adaptive equipment for people in wheel chairs or with limited mobility. The center, just off Route 40, is located at 2470 Sunset Lake Road, minutes from I-95 and Route 1.

The Practice & Procedure Center also serves as a hub for PWP’s training programs. “In addition to seminars and presentations,” Jastrebski said, “we expect to offer internships to students and certificate programs to professionals in dental and health care so our methods can benefit more patients and improve access and quality of treatment options for people with disabilities, their families and the public at large.”

Practice Without Pressure, Inc., is a 501©3 organization based in Newark, DE whose mission is to help people, especially those with disabilities, receive quality medical, dental and personal care with dignity and respect.
