Adopt a Family

The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware is hosting our sixth annual Adopt a Family Program this holiday season! If you are a Down Syndrome Association of DE family in need of some extra support, we want to help you! Please note that while we would love to assist all families in need, DSA cannot guarantee all registered families will be matched. This program is only open to families of individuals with Down syndrome. Whether you are in financial hardship, are navigating medical complexities, or could just use some extra help – we’d like to help you.

Since 2021, the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware Adopt a Family Program has assisted over 50 families during the holiday season. Our Adopt a Family Program is designed for organizations, departments, or larger households who are able to fully sponsor a family — typically consisting of at least two adults and two children. We ask our donors to provide both gifts and essential household supplies (such as toilet paper, cleaning products, etc.) to help make the holidays brighter for these families who are in need.

The estimated gift value is generally around $500 per family, and we find that this level of support works best for offices, departments, or groups of individuals who can contribute together.

We just wanted to reach out and thank our donor for the wonderful items we received! We hadn’t expected to receive the additional clothes for our daughter or the basket full of household items and they were such a nice surprise! Our daughter absolutely LOVES her new sensory ball, she stares at it whenever we pull it out for her. Thank you so much to our wonderful donor for their generosity towards our family this holiday as well as DSADE for all the generosity you’ve shown our family since we found out about our daughter’s diagnosis!
