Days of Summer Camp
The Days of Summer Camp was started in 2012 with a small group of about twenty children and has grown into a large summer day program. The goal of the camp is to allow children with Down syndrome the opportunity to have the experiences of summer camp while practicing independence, developing physical and emotional health as well as increasing their confidence levels. We strive to maintain an atmosphere where children can build great peer relationships as well as have a fun experience at camp!
Camp is a fun day camp experience for children with Down syndrome ages 3-13 years and their siblings ages 3-10 years. Children are provided with the traditional camp experience with crafts, games, and many other exciting activities, at no cost to their families. Campers are not required to be potty trained.
As stated in the camp application, not every camper is guaranteed a spot to camp just because they applied. Campers will be limited to attending a maximum of 2 out of the 3 camps. Priority will be given to individuals who reside in the county. Official acceptance to camp of all campers and counselors will be determined by DSA staff and is not guaranteed.
A certified nurse and teacher is on site at all times and young adults aged 15-25 serve as counselors. Counselors receive at least 40 hours of documented community service for their time. We will also accept a limited number of Counselors in Training ages 12-14. This number will depend on how many experienced counselors we have available for camp to mentor Counselors in Training.
